News Flash: Indoor Tanning really isn’t that hot

The Washington Post recently published an article discussing the relationship between indoor tanning and outdoor tanning and skin cancer. According to one study, people who tan indoors are actually at a greater risk for skin cancer than people who tan outdoors.
As the weather cools off for fall, many of us may be tempted to venture into the world of indoor tanning beds. Don’t let the bronze blonde beauties at the front desk coax you in! Tanning indoors is just as bad, even worse, than tanning outside. This recently published study is actually a meta analysis of 12 different individual studies that looked at the relationship between tanning and skin cancer. This study involved around 80,000 participants, about 9,000 of which had skin cancer.
This study found that individuals who had used any type of UV emitting device to obtain a cosmetic tan, were 29 percent more likely to have basal cell skin cancer and 67 percent more likely to have squamous cell skin cancer.
That being said, no forms of tanning that expose your skin to UV rays are recommended. That means you Tan Jersey Mom!
If you are looking for a natural glow this season, why not boost up on the vitamin C! It gives you a radiant look to your skin while healing and promoting new cell production.
But, hey if you are going for the saggy wrinkled look at the ripe old age of....35. The more power, or should I say “rays”, to you.
