Keeping Your Skin Healthy for the New Year
5 Tips for Back to School Skin
Whether you are a parent with children returning to school, or a student getting back into the swing of things, skincare is probably not on the top of your list of priorities. However, because the health of your skin is so important to your overall health, it needs to be taken care of as well. Here are some easy tips to get you started off on the right foot for the new academic year.
Use a great moisturizer- Along with new beginnings, often come new stressors. Stress has a negative impact on your skin and can cause excessive drying. When your skin gets dehydrated it can experience “cell-shrinkage”. This process causes cells to harden on the outer layer, and does not allow for old cells to slough off and new cells to shine through. To prevent this, use a moisturizer that really gets the job, and be sure to moisturize in the morning and before you go to bed.
Don’t forget to exfoliate- While it may seem counter intuitive to exfoliate already dry skin, exfoliation actually helps skin rejuvenation. Exfoliation gently removes the outer layer of dead skin cells and allows the new layers to shine through. Be sure to moisturize after you exfoliate so the moisture can penetrate the new layers of fresh skin.
Use a mineral makeup- All of the hype associated with mineral makeup may not be just hype. Mineral makeup is just that, minerals and nothing else. While everyone may not want to use it all the time, it is a great temporary solution if you know you will be transitioning into a stressful period of your life. Mineral makeup won’t clog your pores and has no ingredients, such as alcohol, that can irritate your skin under pressure
Keep face wipes handy- Many experts recommend washing your face three times a day. Between classes, the rigorous schedule of your children, or working a full time job, it can be difficult to find time to wash your face in the middle of the day. It can also be difficult to clean off the soap from your face without messing up your hair up-do. Keeping face wash cloths can be a handy way to clear off dirt, debris, and oil at a time when your skin (and you) could use a break.
Don’t forget your sunscreen- If you have been keeping up with our blog, you should know that we take our sun protection very seriously. Just because you may be inside, does not mean that you are safe from the sun. Windows, lunch breaks, recess, and outdoor exercise can still expose your skin to UV rays. To incorporate sun protection into your daily routine, try a makeup foundation with added SPF.
